It’s hard to believe this delicate but hearty creamy garlic Prawn Pasta takes just 10 MINUTES before it’s on your plate.

Simplicity at its finest – a totally satisfying midweek dinner that’s healthy, easy and utterly delicious. All hail quick pasta dishes for the win!

Easy prawn pasta recipe with creamy garlic sauce.

This might be about to become a firm favourite on your family’s weekly meal plans. It’s not fussy in the slightest but has an air of something a little ✨ fancy ✨.

The combination of a creamy sauce with the prawns and spaghetti is what elevates such a simple and unassuming dish.

We all need a go-to pasta recipe most weeks (some of us more than once!), so this is a perfect dish when you’ve had your fill of the usual meatier meals.

What we’re talking about here is a pile of frozen prawns, a couple of portions of vegetables and a rich, creamy (shortcut, of course!) sauce. Mix up with spaghetti and you’re away.

I hope you love it as much as we do.

Why you’ll love this Prawn Pasta recipe

How we came up with this recipe

Prawns are such a versatile ingredient and perfect for families because they don’t cost too much, their fishy flavour isn’t overbearing, you can buy them cooked, they’re healthy and they have a good, meaty consistency.

They are also perfect for curries, tacos, in tapas, as starters, in salads, and much more besides, but I wanted to come up with a super simple and quick pasta dish with prawns to make eating them as family friendly as possible.

We tested this recipe plenty of times to ensure it had very few ingredients but plenty of flavour, and cooked quickly. So quick, in fact, that dinner is ready in 10 minutes!

Notes on Prawn Pasta Ingredients

Prawn Spaghetti ingredients from Aldi.
  • Frozen king prawns – I cook the prawns from frozen but you can use any type (just adjust cooking times accordingly)
  • Soft cheese – Make sure you use the garlic and herb variety. This is our secret weapon! It’s a perfect flavour-packed shortcut

How to make Prawn Pasta

  1. Put your pasta on to boil according to the packet instructions.
  2. Fry the courgettes and garlic in hot oil for 2-3 minutes until softening, then add the prawns.
  3. Add the peas to the pasta water 3 minutes before the end of the cooking time. Drain and reserve some water.
  4. Add the peas and pasta to the courgettes and prawns, followed by the cream cheese and lemon juice and zest. Mix well and add the reserved water if needed.

Substitutions

  • To make this a vegetarian dish – Replace the prawns with your favourite vegetarian protein alternative
  • Type of pasta – You can make this as a prawn linguine if you prefer, or whatever pasta you have in or like

Reheating Prawn Pasta

In the fridge This is fine to be eaten either cold or reheated well the next day (make sure it’s piping hot) but it will be a little dry once the ‘sauce’ soaks into the pasta, so it won’t be at its best as it is fresh. Add a drop of water before reheating.

In the freezer I’m not a big fan of freezing pasta as it can go quite mushy when defrosted and reheated. I also wouldn’t recommend re-freezing prawns that have already been frozen.

FAQs

Can I use reduced fat soft cheese?

Yes, I’ve found that it doesn’t make much difference to the ‘sauce’. But be sure to use a flavoured type of soft cheese here as it’s the shortcut to heaps of added flavour.

Do you have any other family friendly fish recipes?

Sure, I have lots. If you’re trying to introduce it a little more to beginners, I would recommend my Easy Fish Pie, Classic Tuna Pasta Salad, Salmon Burgers or my Homemade Fish Fingers.

Absolutely delicious and simple. I only used one pot of reduced cream cheese and added a bit of pasta water and still yum. So if you were trying to save money it still works.
